classic example of how people react when they feel that FOE is being threatened.
Just for my record, this should be my COM3080 topic for the 1st ass!!
ishh... should this news be reported earlier that is.
the question was,
Why do youth illustrate the political relevance of media cultures? Explain with your own example of youth media practice. You may, if you wish, focus on the sorts of young people and youth experiences which media ignore
This was just in on BBC. Apparently politicians are hiring youth, university students in particular, in their campaigns going on in India's national election. This led to a massive involvement/volunteering of other university students in politics.
*keywords: youth, media, politics
What motivated the political leaders to do that is, youths make up to 2/3 of the voting population and that by attracting more youths to participate in politics, they hope to create a pied-piper effect, that would in turn, attract more support from the following groups.
Also, youths today are operating in a slightly different linguistic discourse from the older generation (even the political leaders themselves), besides the increase accessibility of media can contribute in the campaigns.and websites to send political ideas across. Furthermore, it was said that they used simpler words in conveying their message so that the public can understand the party better.
University students advocated the uses of internet by setting up blogs, forum... starting youth movements etc.
Discussion
1. Positive eff
- youth understand their own problem, hence appeal to youth DIRECTLY. This way of campaigning is more efficient in addressing the issues (ie: lack of amenities and education facilities in rural areas) that are troubling the youths.
- increase in political awareness among youth, reduce political apathy among youths.
2. critic
- the technological divide.
- the youth involved - bias. - the information divide - tend to generalize youths. (ie: different youths raised in different environment will have different views than the kids from the slums.)
- the discourse of politics is evolving - simplified text - to appeal to public, hence challenging the sanctity of politics (will be discussed on the lines of semantics).
- by focusing too much on the youths, neglect the remaining population (ie: the older generation?)
... and that is why a 1000 words' essay is near impossible.
