Little Melodical Moments~

Time: 7:44am
Location: How!5

lol, I've spent too much time meddling with my imeem music list...

Apart of being reaffirmed about the fact that time do flies for the idle, I 'discovered' a few new artists~

Anya Marina and Soko... among the others. I really love Anya's "Sociopath"... such a cute song with a hard-to-associate name (er, mind the vid, listen to the background music...). Just like Lily Allen's well-received "Fuck You", which was butchered by the FCC.

Talking about cute songs, here's one by Soko. Unlike Lily Allen's thought-provoking lyrics, Take My Heart's almost toooooooooo innocently sweeeeet =)

These sweet uncorrupted thoughts remind me of a time when I dream of nothing but princesses and fairytales... and when kids are safe to roam and play freely on the once peaceful streets of Ipoh...

p/s: I cycled to Coles with Zax yesterday night and saw these while I have this HUGE craving for choc cookies... This is as close as I can get to Pipi for the moment... =~~ (

pp/s: before you get your hopes high, please wipe that stupid grin off your face coz I'm not gona eat the dog food la you doof... you know who you are... swt...

and yea, I'm sorry but I'm not exactly thrilled that you guys are moving out...

...though it can be a good thing for you peeps.

*sniff* *sniff*

I know I may sound selfish by not being supportive but...

...who's gona eat the dog food then? =(

Old is Gold?

Location: Menzies, level 3.

I was appalled by this comment from our minister...

“It’s not worth commenting since he is an old man. Let him talk. What he feels is no longer relevant,’’ Nazri told a press conference at Parliament House yesterday.

I'm aware that this remark should be read in the context of the situation, yet being a politician living in the public eye, these kinda mistakes shouldn't be made.

*disclaimer - this does not mean that I support the political stance that the "old man" is advocating.

-----------------

anyway, I find this to be extremely amusing...

those of you who can't read mandarin, good for you, if not u'd be ROFL... WOW, a..kissing at its best =)

再益:全球最有权力首相‧纳吉真要改革做得到

他形容马来西亚的首相兼巫统主席为“全世界最具权力的人”,就算是美国总统奥巴马也没有如纳吉般的势力。
which translates...

"Zaib Ibrahim described Malaysia's Prime Minister and UMNO president (Najib Tun Razak) as "the most powerful person in the world", even the President of United States, Obama is not as powerful as Najib.

Butterfly Effect in real life.

Location: Library.. again.

Hehe.. yup. This means that I haven't started studying... YET.

anyhoo, been intrigued by the whole incarceration theory. The relation to asylums and Foucault. Those are in jail have him to thank for... I'll comment more on it after I've acquired more info on this issue k?

So, here's a Real Life Butterfly Effect.

Chaos theory incarceration

In Colorado, a debate over illegal immigrants has led to the re-emergence of leasing prisoners for work. This is not a good thing.

http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/sasha_abramsky/2007/03/chaos_theory.html

I never knew something so small can lead to such a big repercussion, short term and long term wise.

And so Stalin's legacy lives on...

Location: Library, MU

The condo's connection went down again. *sigh* It poured soooo heavily yesterday, when I looked out from my 12th floor unit, all I saw was blurrrr. totally cannot even see Monash, or the construction site right across the road from my condo.

I was supposed to be studying.. but no surprise here.. I'm so relaxed now while the exam's tomorrow. THIS is not a good sign.. I felt like I barely studied, which is because I rarely studied.

I'm so gona fall flat tomorrow.

Anyways, here's something in the headlines yesterday that caught my eye.

I don't think there's any explaination needed for this. I am just amazed that this news even got out of the country.

KREMLIN RULES

It Isn’t Magic: Putin Opponents Are Made to Vanish From TV

By CLIFFORD J. LEVY

Critics of the government, and of Vladimir V. Putin, have been placed on a roster of individuals barred from TV news and political talk shows.

The topic was about media freedom and this sparked the whole issue...

MOSCOW — On a talk show last fall, a prominent political analyst named Mikhail G. Delyagin had some tart words about Vladimir V. Putin. When the program was later televised, Mr. Delyagin was not.

Not only were his remarks cut — he was also digitally erased from the show, like a disgraced comrade airbrushed from an old Soviet photo. (The technicians may have worked a bit hastily, leaving his disembodied legs in one shot.)

Some memorable quotes

#"Senior government officials deny the existence of a stop list, saying that people hostile to the Kremlin do not appear on TV simply because their views are not newsworthy".#

# "All the major national and regional networks are now owned by the government or its allies. And since the presidential election in March, neither Mr. Putin nor Mr. Medvedev has indicated any interest in loosening the reins.

“Our television is very often criticized,” Mr. Medvedev said in April. “They say it is boring, it is pro-government, it is too oriented towards the positions of state agencies, of those in power.”#

Sounds familiar?

So folks, when you're messing with the Big Boys, prepare to get burnt...

Facts of Life - if everything fails, fix your teeth.

Location: some computer lab in level 4.

Here's something that caught my eye when I was slacking about.

Ok, so it's no surprise that beautiful people live a cozier life, they get by in the fast lane, even the plain water taste sweeter in their lives....

ANYWAYS, here's something for you to sleep on. Do people with nice teeth earn MORE?

The Economics of Teeth, and Other Beauty Premiums

.... Just over a decade ago Dr. Hamermesh presided over a series of surveys in the United States and Canada which showed that when all other things are taken into account, ugly people earn less than average incomes, while beautiful people earn more than the average. The ugliness “penalty” for men was -9 percent while the beauty premium was +5 percent. For women, perhaps surprisingly considering popular prejudices about the sexes, the effect was less: the ugliness penalty was -6 percent while the beauty premium was +4 percent.

Yea, scroll down to read the end of the link for the punch line..

it reminded me about the email that Sze Vien sent me that day... regarding a guy from Singapore who's name is Batman. If it's not bad enough, his dad's name is Suparman.

Come to think of it, having a Pitt, or Trump, or Bush as a last name's gona have its perks~

*Updated

On a totally unrelated note, this headline made me cracked up in this very very very quiet computer lab. Yup, those are the stares, the judgmental stares from young adolescence who had barely reached puberty.

VERY MATURE DUDES...

anyhooo...*composure*

Curriculum Designed to Unite Art and Science

By NATALIE ANGIER

The battle between the sciences and the humanities has been going on for so long, its early participants are already dead.

I'm not sure if it's the fact that I'm an art student or the fact that it's so blunt and true at the same time... It's Farny.

Starbucks Ain't So Expensive Afterall.

to all the parents (or you can tell your parents) out there, Starbucks Coffee is so Cheap!

Location: B12.3a, Sunway.

Yes, I've said it!
From Sin Chew Daily yesterday

ok, for English ed. friends it's basically talking about Jacky Chan's new coffee shop/cafe in StarHill selling, well, Coffee. If you think Starbuck's expensive, Think again.

Every cup of coffee he made (by Jacky) will be sold at RM 50.

RM 50... I can spend dining in Shogun... I can spend RM 50 eating a few meals of mckiddies, delivery somemore. RM 50 I can watch a few movies... RM 50 can be spent to support a child for a month in maybe Zimbabwe or Malawi...

Yes, RM 50 is still very 'big' for me. Though it isn't suffice to purchase a pair of MNG Jeans or AX t-shirt nor is it enough to buy a Guess purse, spending RM 50 on a cup of frapp is nothing short of a nonsense to me.

So for all those good rational samaritans out there, Pro-Starbucks!!

Knork Knork, Who's there?

I love tabloids! Well, some tabloids more than the others... Anyways, the Daily Express is actually quite interesting to read when someone stood you up or when you have no social life and spending all morning reading tabloids or your final exam's just around the corner and you don't feel like studying so you make up these excuses like "Tabloids are still news right? It's good to read some news!" to console your wasted time... and No, I'm not pointing my finger at anyone here.

Here me out, I have this really goood excuse. I'm like the only one (in my immediate family) who's in Malaysia.. AGAIN! *Sigh* Bro's not here, mom & dad went to Bali. I feel so abandoned. That's why i spend all my time reading 'news'~ LoL... I need to improve in my story telling skills.

Anyhoo, I came across some really fascinating stuff in Daily Express!

COMPUTER THAT SAYS ‘NO’ TELLS BOY HOW TO SLIM

Friday October 26,2007

By Nick Fagge

An obese teenager has lost four stone in a world first – thanks to a computer that says “no” every time he tries to overeat.

They should really consider hiring my mom. They sound the same anyways.-----

NOW WE ALL EAT WITH A KNORK... A FORK THAT IS USED AS A KNIFE

Friday October 26,2007

By Jo Willey

Once we all sat at a dining table laid with cutlery for meals. Now even a knife and fork is too fiddly for the convenience food society that is Britain 2007.

---- It's cool and all but I seriously think the host/hostess using this knork thing better be well prepared to stock up their house with plasters coz everyone will be talking, eating and cutting temselves. Spork I can understand (portmanteau of spoon and fork) but this?

So what's next? Find yourself wanting to drink milo and nescafe at the same time so you make neslo? Wait, they invented that already...

Ooo, here's one. Find yourself wanting to have a baby boy and a baby girl? Wait. They have it too. DARN, they just invent EVERYTHING already. -----

Anyways, as usual, I'll be browsing the web while my playlist randomly play the songs in my drive (to give me a false feeling of listening to the radio) and then up came this song, Nirvana's Spank Thru (1995).

I was like totally taken aback by the disorientation of the song. If you can't name one song written by the artists when they were totally high, this might be one to consider. It's like... Songs like these can be released and people actually liked this bought it? There's someone coughing (presumably Kurt Cobain) comon!!!

Even an amateur like me can do better.

- edited after a few minutes this entry was posted -

er, I was dumbfounded when I googled 'knork' basically to see other bloggers making fun of it. There's actually this knork stall selling only knorks...

I just realised that this thing is selling at a freaking expensive price and quite practical actually. By using a knork, one can actually play video games (preferably scrabble) or read mags while eating stuff that you need to cut.

hmm... I'm thinking of getting one myself...

Oh, not this. This is knork's impractical twin brother...

if we have this today, would we all be nude in the future?

Sure, sure, they are rich now coz everyone's buying their lingerie but boy would Victoria's Secret go out of business in the near future...

Location: B12.3A,3, Sunway.

I still remember a simpler time when people wear underwear on the inside and make jokes like "Do you wanna be Superman or Spiderman? Just Wear Your Undies on the Outside!" Then we'll be greeted by waves of laughter... I just feel sad that my children, my grandchildren, my great grandchildren etc. won't be able to understand my lame jokes anymore. That's all I am, I'm made up of lame jokes. To paraphrase myself, without lame jokes, I'm nothing.

So here's the deal from New York Times,

Now It’s Nobody’s Secret
Published: October 25, 2007

Lingerie items have become “display pieces,” said Stephanie Solomon, the fashion director of Bloomingdale’s. Corsets, slips, panties and camisoles are as extravagant in their design, and as coveted, as Louboutin platforms or a YSL tote.

Christian Dior for spring 2008;

Lingerie’s cachet as a sexy, emphatically visible component of a woman’s outfit has contributed to rising sales. According to NPD Group, the market research firm, sales of bras, panties, slips, corsets and even old-school relics like garter belts, climbed to $10.6 billion for the 12-month period ending in July, a 10 percent jump over the previous 12 months. Clearly, the category known quaintly as intimate apparel has climbed to the top of women’s shopping lists.

Louis Vuitton for spring 2008;

“What is really driving the growth of the business,” said Marshal Cohen, the chief retail analyst of NPD, “is that showing off your lingerie has become very much a fashion trend.

To women of all ages, visible skivvies are all but scandal proof.

Anyways, I know I always talk about my love for British stuff like their sexy accent and majestic architectures. Then I stumble upon Kate Nash. (I used to like Lily Allen but recently realise that I feel headache whenever I listen to her songs, like real headache, not speaking figurative here.)

About Kate Nash, I find her accent to be really funny! Unlike smooth double '0' Seven's accent, her Irish-ish slang is funny. This song totally accentuated the weirdness (imo) in her choppy pronunciation. I find it really interesting and amusing. I like her voice though. Maybe that's why I feel so happy and relaxed after listening to her songs.

(this is not the live version, clearer)

Oh, This Song - LDN is a Victim -- Parody of Kate Nash's awful awful Caroline's a Victim -- (allegedly) aggravated Lily Allen and that she 'lambasted the guy who wrote/created this song'. Hmm, I don't get it.

Well, what do i know, I'm just a Malaysian.

Struggling to resist a chocolatey treat may do women more harm than good, research suggests.
