Melody

Location: The Towers.

If i haven't already blogged about my Jrn 1902 tutor, Melody. She's one of the role models that I really look up to... although I'm constantly forced (by myself) to miss her classes...

anyways, she has a really adorable way of putting things. Maybe it's her creativity and ability to work really hard, she's an honours student in Monash now.

here's one of the emails she send us, almost every fortnight.

Hello all,

Thanks for your participation and attendence in class today.

I thank the person who so kindly left their laptop in class for their thoughtful gift, but I must decline as my integrity as a marker could be compromised by your 'gift'.

I really did love how creatively you decorated the laptop though, and appreciate it very much :)

Please come and claim it from me before 5pm today, or from 8am-1pm tomorrow before I sell it on ebay.

Cheers,
Melody

yup, that's how cute she is.

Life in Mon.

Location: Comp Lab 9 (lvl 5, building 9)

Seriously, I really feel like a fugitive in Monash.

Since Julian's class is canceled (coz he fell ill.. poor thing) I had to find a computer to sit my ass down to start on my transcript for Jrn assignment.

from level 1, i marched up the stairs (coz the elevator was really congested... I didn't know there were THAT many people who's trying to get into building 9 at 3 int he afternoon... I even start to doubt if building 9 alone can accommodate that many students.)

... level 2

(mind you, this is the 2nd time today, alone that I climbed up the stairs, the first time was to get to Andrew's class at 1-3pm.)

... level 3...

...level 4. finally.

I begun my search for a computer without some bags or books or young hopefuls hovering all over it.

It's looking for a parking in Taipan at 4-6 pm. There are even queues out of the computer lab. So wasn't expected to see this kinda crowd in Monash.

Building 9 used to be the sanction for Nic, Yen and I when the library's packed with people. It's really crazy I tell you, especially today' not even Monday!!

Anyways, I toured all the computer labs in level 4 and 5 and LUCKY for me, I found a room where the people were supposed to have classes but the lecturer were late, or something. I don't really care anyway.

After sitting there for merely 1 hour, SHE came.

I'm forced to evacuate the place.. she sounded like a tight-ass bitch.

Not planning to prove my theory, I left in a jiffy. then I came to level 5 again... walked around to look for a empty parking space.. wait, I meant vacancy... (hehe, reminded me of the toilet. don't know why...).

... and after some searching and a lot of walking, finally an almost empty room.

yes, I can almost hear the heavenly bells chiming and angels' singing when I claimed my empty seat.

LIKE... SERIOUSLY!! Monash is really short of PC during peak hours. they should have some emergency computer lab for people during these times...

--- * --- * --- *--- * --- * --- *--- * ---

Anyways, here are some memorable quotes of the day.

"If I cannot read your handwriting, who's funeral is that?" (Andrew, 2008)

Why was bathroom a taboo when Psycho was released?

because "bathroom was considered sacred in the Constitution of US" (Andrew, 2008)

Alvin: "Should we bring our own papers to the exam hall?"
..."Should we write on alternate lines during the exam?"

The whole class: "..." -burst out laughing-

Andrew: "AHHHH... ALVIN! should I just kill myself now?"

(sometime in the class)

Jason: "Hitchcock's an asshole".

Which, I totally agree...

A Talk.

Location: Computer Lab 11 (lvl 5, building 9)

the Lead:
It's 3 pm. With 3 condoms in my pocket, I walked casually out of Plenary Theatre in Monash, feeling like a new person, a different person emerging through the heavy glass doors of the theatre. My life's perspective has altered in that short 2 hours' talk.

(the full story will be coming up soon~
after I finish my JRN assignment... sigh...)
So folks, stay tuned!

Skins, Season 1 & 2

Location: Bro's Room.

I just finished watching Skins Season 1 and Season 2... and bOy, was it an emotional journey.

All I can say is, kids these days are really not as simple/innocent compared to the people back in the days.

the critics said something about skins being a teenage drama, not meant for teenagers.

It's totally out of this world, i might say.

Why is it so intriguing?

the kononnya, most beautiful gal in Bristol.

Other than my obsessive behavior on all the wrong matters (ie: obsession on films, but not interested in the technical side of anything...) I find that the kids in this series are totally gorgeous... The only conventional beauty's Effy, and that's only skin deep. Meaning, she looked conventional but does not actually act normal... wait... I don't even know what I'm typing...

Cassie.. the aneroxic one

I think secretly, everyone wanna take drugs, have random sex and most of all, have a buncha friends doing the same things you do, SO you don't feel weird, like an outsider.

*sigh* my life's so boring... the worst thing is that, the actors/actresses are actually around my age and LOOOK how they blossomed. Ishh...

anyways, i do really hope that there's a season 3 for Skins, though it doesn't seem like it's even foreseeable in the future...

Maxxie, the cute one...
-- see, cute guys are either gay or married --
in the context of the series ofcoz

p/s: the cutest guy is Maxxie and the hottest gal would be Effy... well, that's my opinion. and....

I STILL COULDN'T GET OVER
THE FACT THAT CHRIS DIED!!!
WTF!!!

*edited*

I got this really hot promo of Skins Season 2... It's so beautifully done! Though it might give people the wrong idea what Skins is all about. The giant orgy did NOT happen in the series ya... anyhoo, I couldn't help but laughed a little when I saw Anwar getting laid.

Compared to the promo for Season 1...

The movie's great... with the soundtrack. I couldn't say the same having them separated.

CONFORMATION!

Location: The Towers, Sunway.

This week's ENH lecturer's talking all about Struturalism and how did it derive from new criticism and what theory led to post structuralism and what post structuralism is all about... has got my head spinning... AGAIN.

Andrew said that after taking ENH, people will see literature in a different light and it'll (supposedly) help students to get a better understanding of texts/get a better grasp on ways to derive meaning from texts...

The weird thing about structuralism is that, besides being heavily flawed, it kinda make sense to me.

Coz I'm a victim of structuralism!!! why?

Look at our education system these days. Apart of the fact that it's unjustly based meritocracy, it is actually killing creativity with all these rigid rules in this education discourse...

Andrew was complaining about us being really passive, not voicing out our views in class, etc. But what's really happening is that I, DON'T HAVE A VIEW on some issues (like human rights & politics etc.).

I'm sure that there are many others out there who resonate with me. It's natural for us to accept things the way they are (expecially true when it's coming out from a reliable source) since we've been taught since kindergarten that to learn, is to memorize something, make sense of it and 'vomit' out the facts and figures learnt by memorizing it.

We don't challenge stuff! Like WHY do we need to write our scientific report in this particular way? WHY didn't we learn some particular literature and not others? WHY is our edu system this way instead of stimulating the thoughts of the younger generation, encouraging critical analysis and individuality?

Coz they want us to CONFORM.

Like what Hitler and Nixon had in common, they want to create an obedient world, having (making) everyone THINK & ACT the way THEY wanted, to create their ideal nation state, their utopia.

According to Andrew's lecture on structuralism, EVERYTHING we do or act has been scripted out for us. Originality is dead while the ones who are even meerly original/authentic are dead or non-existant.

An example would be the teenage culture these days... There are people who don't wanna conform to the current structure of teen culture (like listening to pop, wearing extra short mini skirts, being size 0 etc.) they adopt gothic trends or would wanna rebel by listening to oldies (like beatles etc) just because they don't wanna be like 'everyone else'.

But excuse me, by applying your black color lipstick and listening to Simon and Garfunkel has been done by people dating back to decades ago... You people are still conforming to a structure, just a slightly different structure, based on a different script that's all.

So whether or not you wanna blend in the trend, YOU are still making a choice within the structure, using a script previously written for whoever's interested.

Then he used Matrix as an example for structuralism. He said that the Matrix is all about getting out of structuralism. That's why, according to the structuralists' theory without a structure, there's (apparently) nothing - you know, the scene where the Architect was projected on a white background...

Back to the point of my problem, I'm still trying to jump out of the loop of conformation of my subconscious (whatever that means.. it sounded right to me.. now). I'm so used to the idea of accepting instead of questioning...

But the thing is, without a particular structure, a code even, a world cannot operate/communicate actually. Moreover, structuralism is supposed to be universal... transcending geographical boundaries and obstruction of languages. Without a standard structure, discourse etc, people will be seen as talking gibberish...

Further, in Andrew's opinion, the only was to escape this structure is to GO MAD. Challenge the norm... but it can guarantee nothing more than a one way ticket to any asylum near you...

Or... this might happen...

Come to think of it, is structuralism another word for 'god' catered for the atheists?

p/s: I finally feel like this Monash Street Carnival is finally coming together~
